The e-commerce industry is working on the ‘Make in India’ trend and is providing a global platform for Indian sellers. Amazon has announced that Indian sellers will be able to market and sell their products across the world through its “Global Selling Program”, which helps Indian businesses to reach out to consumers across the world, initially beginning with US and UK.
Currently, Amazon has its presence in US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Canada, China, Japan, Spain and India. Amazon has already invested $2 billion in India. To enable Indian businesses to take their products across the world, Amazon launched a Service Providers Network (ASPN) that provides local enablement solutions through verified third party service providers like logistics partners, tax consultants, compliance experts, imaging studios, local transportation companies, digital design studios, etc. to make the process of global selling smooth and easy. Amazon’s global selling team also helps the sellers to understand local demand patterns.
Amazon has extended two of its products – Selling on Amazon (SOA) and Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) for all big and small businesses, providing them exposure to 270 million customers worldwide. These businesses can showcase their creations and products to customers by listing on Amazon.com for US and Amazon.co.uk for UK. Manufacturers can now seamlessly export their products that lie in any of the following categories: apparel, home furnishing, Indian handicrafts, jewellery, books, sports gear, handbags, footwear and health & beauty products.
‘Selling on Amazon’ provides an international sales channel, with no product listing fees, no upfront costs of creating a website or setting up a physical store, and secure payments infrastructure. ‘Fulfillment by Amazon’ offers sellers the opportunity to store their products in Amazon’s warehouse; and Amazon packs and delivers the orders to customers, provides customer service and handles returns, for which a combined charge is levied that includes international shipping fee, import fee deposit and producer’s cost. ‘Fulfillment by Amazon’ makes it possible for businesses to take advantage of Amazon’s technology and innovation to serve their customers better.
Chad Goelzer, Director of Global Sales for Amazon stated: “Our Global Selling Program in India is designed to assist Indian manufacturers and businesses to grow their business by leveraging Amazon’s state-of-the-art technology, world class logistics infrastructure and customer service expertise”
Amit Deshpande, Director of seller services for Amazon India said, “We look forward to helping businesses navigate through the complexities of selling globally and develop an international footprint by leveraging the enormous demand for their products across borders and thus, transform the way India makes and sells.”
According to reports, Amazon’s rival Flipkart is also aiming to increase the number of its sellers to 100,000 by the end of the year. It has launched a mobile application “Seller Hub” that offer sellers real-time data on listings, orders, returns, payment and order fulfillment. Alibaba, a Chinese e-commerce company has also launched AliExpress for the Indian market, which allows Chinese sellers to sell in India.
