Oct 16, 2015 Buying Guide
The dates 13th to 17th October 2015 are going to be big days in the eCommerce sector. This is the time when two of India's biggest etailers Flipkart and Amazon are taking on each other.
Flipkart offers its 'Big Billion Day Sale' with offers products across 70 categories. On the same dates, even Amazon offers its 'Great Indian Festive Sale'. This is a great way of attracting users, and the only people who will benefit from this etailers' fight are the customers. They get benefits from both the ends. Though they are offering mega sales on the same dates and their motive is also the same of attracting maximum number of shoppers to their sites and gaining the most sales from them, they have different ways of working.
Amazon is playing safe with promoting its app during this mega sale. Just like Flipkart took a step to force its users to shop via its app, Amazon is not doing so. Flipkart is offering this sale only to customers who install its app. While Amazon is offering its sale via desktop as well as app. The way it compels its users to shop via its app is worth mentioning. Unlike Flipkart who made it compulsory for its customers to use its app, Amazon is offering better deals on its app to bring more users to shop through it. It gives its desktop users a 10% cashback while the app users a 15% cashback using HDFC cards. The app users also have benefits of getting app-only deals on 16th and 17th October and they also get to see the deals 15 minutes before desktop users.
Flipkart has also come up with new techniques to compel users to shop with them. It is planning to send almost half a million postcards to people in small towns to invite them to their sale. According to them, this will add a personal touch and bring more customers to consider coming to their sale. It says it will cover over 20,000 pin codes with the help of 19,000 delivery boys! Flipkart had also launched special training programs to train its sellers from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Surat. The sellers have been taught how to manage their inventory for better precision during this mega sale.
